Request Computer Access for New Staff or Student Assistants

New Staff from Outside the University

  1. All newly hired staff must have an active UBIT Name before IT Services can create a computer account for them. New faculty and staff generally receive thier UBIT Name and default password in their welcome packet or during HR orientation. Please contact your Human Resources person for more information.
  2. You can use the UB LDAP Directory to check the status of a new hire's UBIT Name.
  3. Once their UBIT account is active, submit a request using Request a New User Account Form to request computer access. Please allow 3 business days to complete this request.

Existing Staff and Transfers

For existing University staff with active accounts, please use the Request a New User Account Form to request computer access. Please allow 3 business days to complete request. Please be sure to specify any groups, folders, or special applications they will need access to.

  • NOTE: Please be sure to specify the department the new staff member is coming from in the event that we need to migrate files or applications for the new staff member from their previous department.

Externs, Consultants, and Temporary Hires

  1. Follow the instructions for New Staff from Outside the University above.
  2. Since Externs, Consultants, and Temporary Hires generally don't go through orientation, they will have to go down to the UB Card Office to get their UB Card. They must have a UB Card before they can be granted computer access.
  3. Once they have their UB Card, have the user claim their account on the UBIT Name page.
  4. Use the Request a New User Account Form to request computer access. Please be sure to specify and groups, folders, or special applications they will need access to as well as their expected last day of work.

Student and Graduate Assistants

    • Wether or not they will need an Exchange email account (i.e. Outlook access)
      • NOTE: Students and GAs should not be conducting University business on their personal @buffalo.edu addresses. If the student needs access to email for work related purposes, please request an Exchange account for them.
    • Their expected start and end dates.
