IT Services does not support personally owned iPads. This page merely offers possible solutions for some common questions we have received concerning iPad usage at UB.

We do not endorse any instructions or applications listed on this page. Follow these instructions at your own risk.

Security

It is highly recommended that a Passcode Lock be setup on the iPad: iOS: Understanding passcodes

Accessing your Outlook Email

CIT offers instructions for configuring Outlook (Exchange) email access on an iPad: Apple iOS with UBmail Powered by Exchange

Accessing UB's Network

CIT offers instructions for connecting your iPad to UB's network from on or off campus: Connecting with iOS

Connect to your staff I: or H: drive at UB

  1. You will first need to install an app on your iPad to access UBfs. CIT recommends WebDAV Navigator Lite.
  2. Connecting to your staff I: drive:
    • Start the app.
    • Hit the + button to configure a new source.
    • Enter the information as defined below:
      • Name: I_Drive
      • Server: https://ubfs-mac.buffalo.edu/ubfs/myfiles/X/X/UBITname where:
        • The first X is first letter of your UBITname.
        • The second X is second letter of UBITname.
        • UBITname is your UBIT Name
        • Example - If your UBIT Name was smith the path would be:
          https://ubfs-mac.buffalo.edu/ubfs/myfiles/s/m/smith
      • Username: your UBITName
      • Password: your UBITName Password
    • Click Save.
    • Click Done.
  3. Connecting to your H: drive:
    • Start the app.
    • Hit the + button to configure a new source.
    • Enter the information as defined below:
      • Name: H_Drive
      • Server: https://ubfs-mac.buffalo.edu/ubfs/collab/vipit
      • Username: your UBITName
      • Password: your UBITName Password
    • Click Save.
    • Click Done.
      • Please note: This will take you to the full list of departmental H: drives. Please select your individual department.

UB VPN Client

Installing the UB VPN client may be necessary to access UB resources other than email, calendar, and contacts. CIT's instructions for installing it can be found here: Running the Off-Campus VPN Client AnyConnect on Apple iOS

Accessing the Remote Desktop Server - ITSA-Terminal

  1. If not already installed, install the UB VPN Client: Running the Off-Campus VPN Client AnyConnect on Apple iOS
  2. Start the UB VPN Client.
  3. If not already installed, install the 2X Remote Desktop from the Apple AppStore.
  4. Create a new RDP Connection.
  5. For the Address use itsa-terminal.vpsa.buffalo.edu
  6. Click Save
    • Note: For security reasons, do not store your username and password.
